Virtual Internship at Roche
Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance
University of Lusaka
September 1 - November 30, 2025
At work – my project/tasks
During my virtual internship at Roche, I worked on two major projects. My first task, under the guidance of my mentor Jeffrey, involved benchmarking Roche’s philanthropic efforts against other international firms. This broadened my understanding of how global organisations assess and communicate their social impact. Additionally, I collaborated with my fellow intern, Jonah, on a large-scale survey evaluating the impact of one of Roche’s programs. We distributed a questionnaire to over 1,000 participants, combining both closed- and open-ended questions. This project strengthened my quantitative abilities while helping me grow more confident in qualitative analysis. I also participated in team meetings, which improved my communication skills and my understanding of how international teams operate.
My mentor, coach and colleagues
I am sincerely grateful to my mentor Jeffrey, who offered continuous support, clear explanations, and constructive feedback. Collaborating with Jonah was a highlight, we worked well together and built a strong sense of teamwork. I also appreciated the Monday catch-up sessions with Karen, where we would talk not only about work but also about personal things, including how our weekends went (mine usually involved a lot of soccer). These small moments made the internship feel warm and personal. The entire Roche team was encouraging, supportive, and always willing to assist.
Highlights and challenges during the Swiss internship
One of the biggest highlights was being able to present my work to a professional team; an achievement that boosted my confidence. I also enjoyed the team-building interactions I shared with my fellow virtual interns, which strengthened our working relationship and made the internship enjoyable.
However, the experience also came with challenges. Travelling to and from work was demanding; I often left home at 5:30 in the morning and returned as late as 8:30 in the evening due to the long distance from Silverest to town, and I spent a significant amount on transport alone. Additionally, we experienced several internet connectivity issues, which sometimes made coordination and online meetings difficult. Despite these challenges, I learned resilience, time management, and adaptability.
My future plans
Going forward, I aim to work in a position where my decisions positively influence people’s lives. My broader ambition is to contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s development through impactful work and leadership. Academically, I plan to pursue a master’s degree and ultimately a PhD; the highest academic honour so that I can deepen my expertise and expand my contribution.
Personal message
I would like to share my heartfelt appreciation to the B360 team for giving us this valuable opportunity. This internship has strengthened my skills, expanded my perspective, and shaped my professional goals. Thank you for your commitment to empowering young people and for helping us build foundations that will influence our futures.
