B360 Southbound Program Report:
Two-Week Guest Lecture at NUST
I recently completed a two-week guest lecturer assignment at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) under the B360 Southbound Program, focusing on Occupational Health and Safety at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Cooperation with University Staff
Collaboration with NUST faculty was excellent from day one. Staff members coordinated schedules, shared curriculum details, and co-facilitated sessions on workplace safety regulations and risk assessment, ensuring alignment with local regulations and industry needs. We held daily debriefs to refine content, integrating Namibian environmental standards into lectures for maximum relevance.
Collaboration with Students
Students engaged actively through hands-on workshops, group discussions, and practical simulations on hazard identification, workplace improvements and emergency response. Their questions drove dynamic Q&A sessions, fostering peer learning and real-time application of concepts.
Impact and Win-Win
The lectures equipped students with practical tools for safer workplaces, boosting their employability in Namibia's resource sectors.
For me, the exchange offered insights into African safety challenges, enriching my expertise while B360 bridged global-local knowledge gaps. This created a true win-win: enhanced student skills and mutual cultural-professional growth.
Memorable Event
The highlight was a class excursion to the university's workshop, dedicated to workplace design and hazard evaluation.
Students explored safety and ergonomic setups according to 5S principles, assessed real equipment risks, and applied evaluation techniques hands-on, culminating in group presentations that sparked lively debates on practical improvements.
Expectancies
Looking ahead, the program will see expanded hands-on sessions like hazard simulations and design labs at NUST. With rising student demand, future visits should deliver even greater skill-building outcomes and sustained career advantages.
Personal Message
This NUST experience reaffirmed the power of B360's Southbound model – transforming lives through shared expertise.
I urge fellow professionals to volunteer; the rewards far outweigh the time invested. Thank you, B360 and NUST, for this unforgettable opportunity.
