“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”
(Eleanor Roosevelt)

Coming from a hands-on background in mechanics, my passion for technology and problem-solving pushed me to pursue a degree in Information Systems and Technology. Financing my own education has not been easy, but it has taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of hard work. Being selected for an international internship at LGT Private Bank in Liechtenstein felt like a dream come true - an opportunity to step into a new world, apply my skills, and grow both personally and professionally.

Work Experience

At LGT Private Bank, I was placed in the IT field support team (ISCS), where I had the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and contribute to real-time solutions within a high-performing environment. My daily responsibilities included attending hardware and software incidents, troubleshooting various technical issues, and ensuring smooth functionality of user systems. I was also involved in managing hardware inventory, ensuring devices were properly configured, tracked and maintained, an area that really helped sharpen my organizational and technical skills.

What made the experience even more enriching was the mentorship and guidance I received from Stefan Hobi, who played a significant role in helping me navigate my responsibilities and continuously learn on the job. His patience, expertise and willingness to share knowledge made a big difference in my professional growth. The entire IT support team was incredibly welcoming and supportive, they treated me not just as an intern, but as a valuable part of the team. Through this hands-on experience, I gained confidence, technical competence, and a clear understanding of what it means to deliver quality IT service in a professional setting.

Host Family Experience

One of the best parts of my internship was staying with a kind and welcoming host family who truly made Liechtenstein feel like home. From day one, they treated me like part of the family, and that warmth made a huge difference in helping me adjust to a new environment. Beyond the daily comforts, they went out of their way to share their culture and life with me, making this experience unforgettable on so many levels.

We shared more than just a roof, we shared experiences. They took me on tours to nearby cities in Switzerland, giving me the chance to explore beyond borders and experience Europe’s beautiful diversity. One of the most unexpected and fun things I got to learn was how to become a Barista, yes, I can now confidently make a great cup of coffee thanks to them! They also welcomed me into their social circles, inviting me to gatherings where I met amazing people, expanded my network and engaged in enriching conversations.

A particularly special moment was this year’s Easter celebration. My host’s extended family came together for a warm and joyful Easter meal, and I felt truly included. To top it all off, I was surprised with chocolate bunnies, a small but thoughtful gesture that meant a lot to me. It’s the little moments like these that created lasting memories. Their support, kindness and eagerness to share their lives with me turned what could have been just a stay into a deep and meaningful connection I will always carry with me. To Roman, Patricia, Dominique and Mael, I thank you!

Highlights in Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is not only beautiful, it's deeply inspiring. Every moment spent here felt like I was walking through a living postcard. The natural scenery is breathtaking, with snow-capped mountains in the distance, peaceful walking trails, and fresh air that invites you to slow down and appreciate life. Whether it was a quiet stroll along the Rhine or a visit to one of the charming villages nestled in the hills, I found peace and clarity in the country's natural beauty.

What stood out even more, however, was the way people live and care for their environment. Recycling is a way of life here, practiced so consistently that it becomes second nature. It showed me how small, daily habits can contribute to something much bigger and more sustainable. The people are equally inspiring: warm, respectful, and always willing to help. Even as a foreigner, I felt safe, seen, and welcomed.

The sense of structure and efficiency in Liechtenstein is remarkable. Time is respected, and everything, from work schedules to daily commutes, runs like a clockwork. The public transport system is impressively reliable, clean and on time, making it easy to travel around without stress. And as someone who appreciates good engineering, I couldn’t help but admire the sleek, high-end cars on the roads, a quiet reminder of the region’s love for quality and precision.

Living here, even for a short while, has taught me the value of mindfulness, simplicity, and doing things with intention. Liechtenstein truly is a hidden gem in Europe, not just for its beauty, but for its way of life.

Future Plans

This internship has inspired me to continue growing in the field of IT. In the future, I plan to complete my degree and hopefully lead an IT department where I can also mentor others, just as I was mentored during my time at LGT. I’m also interested in building a strong professional network and possibly returning to Europe for more career opportunities or advanced studies.

At the same time, I remain realistic about the challenges back home, including the high unemployment rate. That’s why I also plan to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained during this internship to my small garage business. Whether it’s using technology to streamline operations, improve inventory management, or enhance customer service, I believe there’s great potential to blend my IT expertise with my mechanical background. If employment opportunities are limited, I am prepared to create my own and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
