At Work
During my internship at LGT Private Bank Switzerland, I had the opportunity to work in the Investment Services Europe Chief Operating Office (ISE COO) Department, where I gained valuable insight into the world of investment products and services; an area I was previously unfamiliar with as a communication student. Under the guidance of my supportive line manager, Lukas, and mentor, Anna, I was able to navigate a completely new environment, grow professionally, and successfully work towards completing my university requirements, which included compiling 30 communication-related samples. Despite initial feelings of being overwhelmed, I quickly adapted thanks to the warm and collaborative atmosphere within the team. My tasks ranged from preparing and analysing surveys, creating presentations, supporting career development programs, to conducting research and assisting with controlling tasks. This experience not only enriched my academic and professional journey, but also allowed me to form meaningful connections with inspiring colleagues, making my time at LGT both impactful and memorable.
My Swiss Host Family
I feel incredibly grateful to have stayed with my host parents, Ruth and Bruno, during my time in Switzerland. From the very beginning, they welcomed me with warmth, kindness, and genuine care, always going out of their way to ensure I felt at home. Their constant support and encouragement made a significant difference in my experience. Our daily dinners together quickly became a cherished routine, teaching me the value of sharing meals as a time to connect and bond. Bruno, who has a passion for cooking, introduced me to his delicious homemade risotto and other meals and we often explored both my host parents’ favourite restaurants, which included Totos, Tibits, and Suan Long. Apart from that, I have learned so much from them; about life, culture, and the importance of kindness. I truly grew fond of both of them, and I will always appreciate the support, guidance, and lessons they shared with me.
Highlights and challenges in Switzerland
Some of the highlights of my time in Switzerland include the amazing opportunity to intern at LGT Private Bank, the cultural exposure I gained from both my work environment and my host family, and the new friendships and professional connections I built along the way. Visiting the Lindt Chocolate House, exploring some places within Switzerland such as Zug, Rheinfall, Lugano, Ticino, Chur, trying out new cuisines, and experiencing the efficient public transport system or visiting other places such as Germany, Milan, and Paris were also memorable parts of my stay. Additionally, I also got to experience snow for the first time which was such a surreal moment for me.
A few challenges I faced were initially time management: learning to juggle work, school (managing the pressure of meeting internship and university requirements) and leisure time. Despite these hurdles, I believe every challenge helped me grow and be more adaptable, making this experience incredibly rewarding both personally and professionally.
My future plans
Looking ahead, my immediate goal is to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Communication, after which I plan to pursue further studies, starting with an Honours degree, possibly in Marketing, and eventually further even more. I am passionate about continuous learning and growth, and I believe advancing my academic journey will open more opportunities for me to contribute meaningfully in the field of communication and beyond. One of my key aspirations is to secure a good job that not only aligns with my skills and interests, but also offers room for growth and the chance to make a meaningful impact. In addition to my academic and professional goals, I have a strong desire to give back to the community. I hope to engage more in volunteering work, especially within marginalised communities and NGOs, where I can use my knowledge and experience to support and uplift others. I aim to be part of initiatives that create lasting positive change.
Personal Message
Sometimes the most meaningful growth happens when we are placed in unfamiliar spaces, when we are learning, adapting, and simply trying our best. It’s not always easy, and it’s okay to feel unsure at first. But with time, support, and a little self-belief, things begin to fall into place. The journey isn’t about having it all figured out - it’s about showing up, staying open to learning, and finding purpose along the way. We all have something valuable to offer, and often, it’s the small steps, the quiet progress, and the kindness we give and receive that shape our paths the most. Wherever life takes you, stay true to yourself and your values, remain curious, and be willing to grow, those are the things that truly carry us forward.
