At Work
During my internship at Julius Baer, I was integrated into the COO Culture Transformation team. I was fortunate to work with a team that made a deliberate effort to assign me tasks related to my field of study. From the very beginning, they took the time to understand my academic background and tailored my responsibilities accordingly. I was involved in writing internal articles and helping with app 3 pages, which gave me the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned at university in a practical, professional environment. This hands-on exposure not only sharpened my technical skills but also allowed me to understand how my knowledge fits into the bigger picture of the working world.
My Swiss Host Families
I had the unique opportunity to stay with two host families during my time in Switzerland: the Schneiders and the Schmidts.
I lived with the Schneiders first, and they gave me a gentle and warm welcome to Switzerland. They created a calm and supportive environment where I could settle in and adjust to a new culture and way of life. Our dinners and conversations gave me insights into Swiss traditions and helped me feel at ease in my new surroundings.
Later on, I moved in with the Schmidts, who brought a new dynamic to my experience. On the very first day, they told me that if I ever got into trouble, I should call them no matter what time it was and they would come pick me up, no questions asked. Well, at least not until the next day. That simple but powerful gesture made me feel truly looked after, and it’s something I’ll always appreciate.
Highlights and Challenges in Switzerland
Exploring Switzerland’s beautiful cities and natural landscapes was an unforgettable part of my experience. I especially enjoyed learning about local customs and experiencing the high standard of organization in everyday life. Adjusting to the fast pace and structured lifestyle was initially challenging, but it helped me improve my discipline and planning skills.
My Future Plans
This internship has encouraged me to think more globally while staying committed to contributing to my community back home. I plan to build on the knowledge and skills I gained here and explore ways to apply them, particularly in ways that can support local innovation and sustainable growth.
Personal Message
Embarking on this internship was a significant step in my professional journey. It taught me that growth often comes from stepping outside one’s comfort zone and embracing new challenges. The experiences gained have not only enhanced my skills, but also broadened my perspective, preparing me for future endeavors. I encourage future interns to approach this opportunity with an open mind and a willingness to learn, as it can be a transformative experience.
