AT WORK
Working for Julius Baer was an eye-opening opportunity, I got to see different working ethics and people’s kindness and willingness to always help. I worked in the IT Global Infrastructure Department and during my internship in this department I learnt that Security is the most interesting part of IT. My mentors and other people of the team taught me different IT terminologies and showed me interesting materials to read about IT Security. I loved all the events I ever attended while working in BJB and the gifts I was given on my first day of work, on the welcome day and at the BJB Art Gallery, all those gifts meant a lot to me. I’m grateful to all my mentors, my line manager and the members of the department for teaching me, the conversations we shared and the meals we shared.
AT HOME
I have never felt so welcomed in home like I felt with Kunz family, from the first day I felt their warmth and kindness. They helped get adjusted in Switzerland faster than I ever thought I could. Being in a home where people are interested in what you did during the day and paying attention to little details was very lovely. I enjoyed each day with them, the places we visited, shopping with the girls and the meals we had together. Words can not express how welcoming the Kunz family was, it was exciting to live with them, and I never felt homesick. I must say that I got love cheese because of them and many other Swiss foods.
HIGHLIGHTS AND CHALLENGES IN SWITZERLAND
So many things that I could highlight, but my biggest highlights are how it felt when I got to play in the snow for the first time, being on a train and buying food or drinks that I always admired on TV shows and movies. My visit in Lugano is the biggest highlight of all the places I ever visited, the whole place feels like a movie scenery, and it has the prettiest flowers.
My challenges would be the cold despite it being my favourite type of weather, I remember being sick in my first week because of how cold it was, and the language barrier was kind of a challenge in the first 2 weeks, but I managed to overcome all these challenges within three weeks of being here.
MY FUTURE PLANS
I plan on studying hard for my final year and get my bachelors’ degree with good grades. I will also look for a job that is related to IT Security in banks or other companies and further my studies in Cybersecurity in 2 years. I would love to be a teacher because it has always been my dream to teach kids, and I will get a teaching license in 10 years.
PERSONAL MESSAGE
When you want new doors to open for you, always have an open mind. For you to enjoy a place or find comfort with the people around you, are to always being ready to face life in another perspective. Let loose and learn new things, explore and listen to what other people think or view life.
Thank you to B360, my host family and Julius Baer for welcoming me.
