Trainings – what I have learned
The Career Bridge trainings gave me skills that a technical degree alone does not. In week one I learned the canvases we later used in the Hackathons, the Problem Solving Canvas, the Decision Canvas, the Ideation Canvas and the Build and Validate Canvas. The Career Starter Week (CSW) taught me how to prepare for interviews, write a strong CV, speak confidently in front of people and present myself as a personal brand. In the ICT training I learned advanced Excel techniques that improve productivity and efficiency. Together they taught me to turn a technical idea into something a partner organization can actually use, and they also made me think seriously about one day owning my own IT firm.
Teamwork experience with Career Bridge colleagues
Our team had four members, two from Economics and two from IT. This mix worked well because each pair brought a different strength. My colleague Roy Mvula from IT and I took on everything practical, turning ideas into an actual working product, while our Economics teammates shaped the research, the business logic and the partnership thinking. I learned to share work early, give honest feedback and trust each other's strengths.
Highlights and challenges during the Hackathons
My proudest moment was building the grant pipeline, an AI-driven tool that discovers and extracts funding calls from European and Swiss grant portals and delivers structured results to NGO fundraisers. We also worked on Roche's Global Citizenship case study, "From Good Partnership Practice to a Clear Framework, Designing an RGC Partnership Lifecycle".
The biggest challenge was internet connectivity during online meetings, which meant dropped calls and missing some key points from discussions. We handled it by sharing notes and updates in writing afterwards and planning important sessions carefully.
My future plans
I am an IT graduate with a strong interest in cybersecurity, networking and system administration. I work as a part-time software developer and as a freelance web and AI-powered automation developer in Lusaka. I plan to deepen my skills in security, including AI and LLM security, pursue professional certifications, and keep building practical tools that solve local problems in Zambia. In the long term, I would like to start and run my own IT firm.
