Virtual Internships

Become part of an innovative and sustainable project.
By doing so, you will help to support young, talented people in Southern Africa.

"Virtual Internships", the new program of B360 education partnerships was developed in collaboration with experts and partners in Switzerland and Southern Africa. The program is fully supported by the STAUB KAISER FOUNDATION.
A pilot program took place from April-July 2021 with students from the Namibia University of Science and Technology NUST in Windhoek. The second round took place in spring 2022.

Timeframe

Virtual Internships last about three months. Timing is reviewed case by case, taking into consideration the company’s requirement and the curriculum of the student.

Sectors

In the pilot project Communications, Journalism and IT sectors proved to work well. However, all sectors are possible. The company offering the internship suggests what the student’s field of study should be.

Intern profile

Students are generally third or fourth year bachelor students with no prior work experience. Their level is comparable to bachelor students at applied science universities in Europe. Students speak English.

Set Up

Students are based in Southern Africa. They have a workspace at the university. Equipment (internet, laptop and smartphone) are organized by B360 education partnerships and the responsible university. Currently the program is offered in Namibia. In future it will hopefully also be possible to offer the program at our partner universities in Zambia and South Africa.

Virtual Employer

Companies offering a virtual internship decide what the intern’s field of study should be and what the job description is. Dedicated mentors, good onboarding, project work, well structured tasks, targets and performance management are important factors in the B360 virtual internships.

Virtual Host Families

Cultural exchange is an important element of the program. The virtual host families give insight into Swiss culture, discuss different topics with their “host” and learn about cultures and lifestyles in Southern Africa. A win win situation.

Costs

The costs are currently fully funded by our donor STAUB KAISER FOUNDATION.
