at work

During my internship in Switzerland, I worked for Bank Julius Baer at the Julius Baer Academy as a Learning and Development Coordinator. I worked with two teams - the All Staff Development and Locations Team (headed by Dominique Remund) as well as the Leadership Development Team (headed by Marianne Schenk).

On my first day of work, I received a very warm welcome, I found a welcome card on my desk that was signed by every member of the team. I also found chocolates and flowers as well as Julius Baer branded gifts. Everyone was welcoming and told me to ask questions whenever I had some. The teams were very supportive and ensured that I had tasks to do, they also gave me support during the tasks assigned. I also appreciated the welcome lunch that was held for me, it helped with my integration into the team.

Working in Switzerland, I have picked up some lessons such as time management, planning and the need to continuously learn and pick up new skills.

my swiss host family

I had the privilege of staying with two host families: the Ochsner’s and the Schneider’s. They were very welcoming and made my integration into Switzerland easier. We went on various excursions together and they explained to me how to navigate the transport system. I enjoyed having dinner together as we would chat about the day and other differences in our cultures.

highlights and challenges in switzerland

One of my biggest highlights was seeing snow for the first time, I enjoyed my trips to Paris, Rome, Germany and Austria. I also had a good time visiting other cities in Switzerland such as Geneva, Bern, etc.

One challenge was the cold weather, it was very cold the month we arrived and it took some time for me to adjust. Another challenge that I experienced sometimes was the language barrier, but it wasn’t so bad as most people speak English.

My future plans

I’d like to complete my master’s and work either in economic research and policy analysis or as a lecturer. I’d also like to get a PhD in Economics, start a car rental business and later on venture into farming.

A huge thank you to B360, B360 partners, host families and the companies that are taking in interns.
